The Assistant Director of Food Services and Warehouse Stores will oversee “Stores”, our central distribution warehouse that services our students and staff on our Watertown campus. The central focus is on quality service to our community and fiscal responsibility in ordering and distribution of products. The Assistant Director will oversee picking, storage, receiving, dispatching, security, maintenance, sanitation, and administrative functions. They will oversee, train, evaluate and reward staff. They will ensure the maintenance of the equipment in the Storeroom and used by our staff. The Assistant Director of Food Services and Stores will also assist the Director in, and be prepared to step up in their absence, the planning and distribution of labor, materials, supervision, and substitution when necessary for preparing meals in three main kitchens/dining areas on campus.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations include the following.

  • Oversight of daily operations regarding all aspects of Perkins School for the Blind Storeroom.
  • Execute a highly professional storeroom including equipment maintenance scheduling, timely deliveries, and staff behaviors/culture.
  • Management of Storeroom Storage and inventory and cycling
  • Produce and Protein platform purchasing development and execution with guidance from Director.
  • Meets Director’s expectations in accordance with Perkins Food Service Standards, OSHA and other state and federal public health regulations.
  • Follows proper receiving and storage procedures
  • Identifies and creates opportunities for improvements in ordering, distribution, inventory management, and delivery of goods.
  • In collaboration with the Director, confers with the school's Nutritionist on developing and updating an appropriate inventory of food items to be available to the student population in adherence with our policies and procedures around special diets, allergies and other food restrictions.
  • Works with cottage supervisory staff to ensure that orders are placed according to predetermined pars, scheduled and delivered in a timely manner.
  • In collaboration with the Director, manages the ordering of goods for catering functions as well as the set up, delivery and maintenance of functions as within Food Services and Stores purview.
  • General Management:
  • Directly supervises employees in the Storeroom area.
  • In conjunction with the Director will participate in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensures that equipment is maintained properly. Reporting to the Director in case of maintenance.
  • Interfaces with internal support teams and outside vendors.
  • To perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.

Competencies

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Experience with Workday Procurement, SchoolDude(now Brightly) applications, Google. Ability to learn a variety of software applications as needed.
  • Ability to supervise multi-kitchens operations in association with the Director of Food Services.
  • Ability to train employees and develop internal labor pipelines.
  • Ability to research best practices and update policies
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Outstanding organizational, multi tasking and problem solving skills.
  • Valid Driver's License

Minimum Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in warehouse or multi unit food service operations with at least two (2) year of supervisory experience
  • Food Safety Experience: ServSafe certified (will support acquisition of the certification for the right candidate)

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Associates/Bachelors Degree in logistics, supply chain management, hospitality, or business. Candidates with life/work experience in lieu of formal education are encouraged to apply.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
