Data Scientist (Remote) Job at Smiths Detection
- Develop automated detection algorithms and related products for 3D and 2D imaging based detection systems in software packages and programming languages/environments such as Matlab, C++, and Python
- Provide Domain knowledge support for technical areas such as image processing, feature detection, 3D image reconstruction, and/or segmentation as directed, representing Smiths Detection and providing feedback to internal and external customers
- Provide technical support of key testing activities, including support of laboratory and field testing activities
- Interact with external technical personnel, industry groups, testing standards groups, selected customers, and internal management to provide feedback into product development, design, and certification efforts
- Collect sample image, library data, and technical information to support algorithm development projects
- Take part in US-Based testing and development of detection algorithm software including executing test plans and experiments in a laboratory setting
- Must Comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety, and environmental policies
- Must comply with all applicable US export and security regulations
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design and test new detection solutions to meet customer specifications or in-house project requirements.
- Analyze customer specifications or project requirements to create the required plans and frameworks for algorithm and machine learning development success
- Collaborate with global teams of in the system software and algorithm development domains.
- Design and execute data collection protocols to ensure requirements for development efforts are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Support Demos and Customer presentations of Low Energy Imaging equipment.
- Support traditional detection development work through data collection, labeling, and algorithm development.
- Compose and edit highly technical documentation, correspondence, and literature
- Maintain and communicate status of projects to the management team.
- Work independently using written feedback, general standards, and guidelines.

The Individual
Position Requirements-
- Advanced Degree or Equivalent Experience in an appropriate technical field (Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Medical Imaging, or Computer Science)
- 3+ years of experience in developing computer algorithms, mathematics, physics, or related discipline.
- Experience with security imaging or detection products desired. Experience in related fields (medical imaging or similar) will be considered.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project. Experience with Linux/Unix OS, Matlab, C++, Python or similar programing languages.
- Candidate must possess or be able to successfully obtain a US Security Clearance at the SECRET level
