Tampa Bay Newspapers is seeking a full-time bilingual (English/Spanish) editor to help head up Latin American coverage for our Spanish language publication.
We are seeking a self-motivated journalist who has a desire to become embedded in the Tampa Bay Hispanic community and help give it a voice by telling its stories.
The ideal candidate would have writing, editing and design experience.
Responsibilities:
• Translate copy from English to Spanish quickly and accurately.
• Edit stories with clarity and speed.
• Write at least two stories each week.
• Work collaboratively with reporters and freelancers to orchestrate coverage for a weekly print edition and consistent flow of digital content.
• Design or help design weekly Spanish-language publication that is engaging and reader-friendly.
• Regularly update website and social media platforms.
• Use news judgment to make story decisions that are appropriate for the audience.
Requirements:
• A college degree in journalism and experience at a newspaper.
• Editing experience is preferred, but journalists without past formal editing duties will be considered.
• Knowledge of AP style and grammar.
• Experience using a website CMS.
• Photography, InDesign and multimedia skills are a plus.
• Ability to work occasional weekends.
