MUSEUM TOUR GUIDE
The Canton Museum of Art (CMA) seeks outgoing, art-loving individuals to provide educational and engaging guided tours. Share your passion for art and have a profound impact on the museum experience and community. This is a part-time as needed position in the Education Department and reports to the Education Director.
Tour guides are a vital link between what is displayed in the Museum and how visitors respond to what they see. Exhibitions change regularly, so there is always something new to see. Each season, our education team develops new, customized tours which can be further tailored to meet group’s special interests or needs. We strive to make our tours interactive and fun for all ages. Tour guides support the Museum’s commitment to providing visitors of all ages and backgrounds with a positive engaging visit. Join our team and have the opportunity to meet artists and curators, participate in trainings to enhance presentation skills, learn about art history and the exciting stories behind the art and more!
This position requires around 2-10 tours or trainings per month, depending on exhibition schedule. Tours are typically 45 minutes long and most commonly scheduled back-to-back for a total of 1.5 hours in length plus 15-minute early arrival time. Trainings are typically 1-2 hours. Tour guides are notified 2-6 weeks in advance for scheduling.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have open availability to be scheduled on an as needed basis for trainings and lead tours from 10 am to 12 pm, Tuesday – Fridays. Other time slots available if schedule permits.
- Engaging and high energy storyteller, with improvisational skills to cater to large and small group’s interests and needs.
- Eagerness to learn, research, and attend trainings related to in-gallery activities.
- Punctual with excellent time management and communication skills.
- Previous teaching, tour guide, and/or presentation experience preferred.
- Previous art teaching experience may add opportunity to also teach hands-on Art Experience Workshops in addition to tour.
- Must be able to pass an Ohio BCI & FBI Background check.
