Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Reports directly to Hobbs Police Department’s IT Administrator. Resolves technical issues for Hobbs Police Department employees. Performs a variety of technical work to include installation, upgrades, network administration and technical maintenance for all specialized software and hardware systems throughout the Hobbs Police Department. Specialized systems include but are not limited to in-car video and communications equipment, VPN, Computer Aided Dispatch software, body cameras, evidence and asset management platforms. Assists in the administration and maintenance of servers, NVRs, operating systems, software, upgrades and backups. Configures, maintains and replaces PTZ and fixed cameras, point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radios, POE injectors and network switches throughout all City buildings and facilities, parks and intersections related to City camera systems. Ensures all Hobbs Police Department systems remain current and technically functional. Coordinates with outside technical support agencies or vendors, including City of Hobbs IT Department to solve hardware, software and network issues as required. Maintains a positive and constructive working relationship with City of Hobbs IT Department.


Responds to requests to troubleshoot and interpret problems and provides technical support for various hardware and software. Installs new in-car laptops and components. Instructs users in the use of equipment and assists in maintaining and insuring compliance of all software licensing and authorized use. Responds to or assists with other technical issues as directed by IT Administrator and/or chain of command.


Responsible for maintaining current technical knowledge by attending workshops and online training and reviewing applicable publications. Assists in setting and monitoring computer access and privileges. Assists in insuring that critical data is backed up and secured and assists with individual user data safeguards. Assists in disaster recovery. Assists in Identifying budgetary needs. Instructs computer users on the secure use of their assigned equipment. Must occasionally work outside normal business hours in order to minimize downtime of City services. Must attend trainings and receive certifications as deemed appropriate or necessary by the IT Administrator and/or chain of command. Must maintain detailed daily logs of service requests and work performed. Must be available for on-call status.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

May serve on various employee committees, as required and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited two (2) year college with a degree in Computer Science or a closely related field with two (2) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Good analytic and problem solving skills. Experience with anti-virus software. Ability to work under close supervision, as well as the ability to take independent initiative when needed. Knowledge of current electronic processing theories, principles, and practices of computer hardware, software, and networks (LAN/WAN). Knowledge of database/program and network structures and installation processes. Knowledge of operating systems/registry. Knowledge of computer and peripheral repair. Knowledge of firewalls, switches, and routers. Basic knowledge of server technology. Knowledge of backup software and hardware. Ability to troubleshoot computer error messages or viruses. Ability to troubleshoot network switches and routers, cameras and NVRs, point-to-point radios or other equipment related to issue with network connectivity, power loss, or damage/failure. Ability complete daily activities according to work schedule. Ability to effectively communicate both electronically and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City personnel, outside technical support agencies, vendors, and general public.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS

Valid state issued driver’s license.
