SENIOR CONSULTANT – ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Thomas P Miller & Associates (TPMA) is growing our Consulting team to better serve the needs of our clients and the ecosystems we support. Successful Senior Consultants will exercise considerable independent judgment and be team-oriented, driven professionals who can lead the design, analysis, and completion of projects and proposals for TPMA clients. Simultaneously, the Senior Consultant will provide support and leadership to their project teams in the planning, assessing, and delivering of projects. Duties will include project research, client relationship management, methodology development, data modeling and analysis, report writing and preparation, and business development. Senior Consultants will lead and partner with internal team members for project coordination while demonstrating expertise in economic development practices, concepts, and theories.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as an economic development Subject Matter Expert (SME) while demonstrating content knowledge and the practical application of economic development principles.
- Development of scopes of work and works with proposal team to develop proposals, project understandings, budgets, and other essential elements.
- Development of high-quality deliverable outlines and content based on project plan.
- Quantitative and qualitative data gathering and analysis; economic development best-practice research.
- Drafts and/or approves written reports then prepares and delivers high-quality and engaging presentations to customers and clients.
- Demonstrates practice area leadership by designing solutions and executing team initiatives; recognizes and researches emerging opportunities for the economic development practice.
- Coordinates with Project Manager and client to ensure timely and successful project deliveries.
- Leads on-site project work, including primary data collection, attending meetings, and translating discussions and research into narrative.
- Conducts advanced research and analysis of information including facilitating focus groups, interviews, town halls, and strategy sessions.
- Secures profitability of each assignment in conjunction with the Project Manager and Operations team; delegating work as needed to meet this objective.
- Ensures that high-quality and high-value services are provided to clients.
- Ongoing development of customer relationships
- Develop an individual and customized business development plan and embrace an entrepreneurial spirit to help grow the firm
- Travel within U.S. required.
SUCCESS CRITERIA
- 5+ years' experience consulting on the design and delivery of solutions in complex organizations and communities, including consulting for economic development, government, nonprofit, and workforce development organizations.
- 3+ years' experience with project management in the workforce, education, community development, and/or economic development areas.
- Passion for developing goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics for economic, community, and workforce development organizations.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to balance multiple priorities while delivering consistent results.
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Displays enthusiasm, curiosity, ambition, a willingness to learn quickly, and a fervent sense of initiative.
- Demonstrates a high sense of urgency to communicate challenges, offer solutions, and deliver results.
- Previous consulting experience a plus.
- Previous experience working directly for an economic development organization preferred, but not required.
- CEcD or EDFP certification preferred but not required.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
- Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, economics, liberal arts, nonprofit management, or related field required.
- Background in real estate preferred, but not required.
- Advanced degree preferred
OFFICE LOCATION
- Remote position, central Indiana based - primarily supporting Indiana-based projects, but may be asked to support initiatives in other states.
- Travel within U.S. required
