Cruz Associates Inc. of Yorktown, VA has open positions for qualified candidates for a Fire Suppression Technician. The job location is at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, MD.

Scope of Performance: Qualified Fire Suppression Technician to support maintenance, repair, and installation of explosive and chemical processing equipment. Technician will work in all explosive and chemical processing areas as determined by management or COR. Technician shall be subject to physical examinations and certification requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently assembles, modifies, and repairs replacement sprinkler pipes, fittings, and fixtures according to the specifications and plumbing codes.
• Tests equipment under operating conditions making appropriate adjustments and calibrates other equipment’s as required. Use such equipment as pipe cutting machine and soldering torch.
• Performs corrective maintenance on defective piping by cutting, bending, threading, and assembling piping materials suited to the specialized use of the sprinkler systems. Fits pipe sections by screwing, bolting, brazing, and welding, gluing, fusing, soldering, and replacing connections with new mechanical couplings. Restores to service assembles and provides modifications to related items needed to complete the sprinkler system operation
• Performs corrective maintenance to sprinkler systems for operation of ordnance industrial facilities that house equipment such as mixers, presses, extruding equipment, stress test equipment and real time x-ray equipment.
• Knowledge of facility electrical systems and complex electrical and electronic system and equipment
• Inspects, test, and maintains wet and dry pipe sprinkler systems for a variety of industrial operating facilities
• Ability to read blueprints and blueprint symbols

Education and Experience – Required: MUST HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS

• Master’s License preferred or Journeyman of 5 years with 10 years in the field
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to pass explosives handler physical and respirator fit test
• Sound technical and computer skills
• Sufficient knowledge of mathematics
• Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 75 lbs.)
