SECTION 1: POSITION DATA.
TITLE: Laundry Worker DEPARTMENT: Environmental Services
REPORTS TO: Environmental Services Account Manager JOB CODE: 51-6011

SECTION 2: POSITION SUMMARY.
Laundry Workers perform a variety of tasks on varying shifts, including collecting and sorting soiled linen, loading and unloading machines, and folding clean linen. Operates computer- operated washers and dryers. Responsibilities include counting and recording the linen processed each day, making proper deliveries to units, and cleaning and sanitizing the work area including; machines, work tables and sorting area. Performs laundry activities within well established guidelines to ensure that quality standards, safety guidelines and customer service expectations are met. Delivers personal clothing to the appropriate resident. The overwhelming majority of the laundry worker’s job is performed while standing, walking and bending. The laundry worker is responsible for satisfactory and timely completion of assigned linen, etc. according to schedule. Reports equipment/cleaning product needs and or malfunctions to supervisor in a timely fashion. Is responsible for the safe and proper use of detergents and adheres to all safety precautions. Work involves pulling and pushing, carrying weight up to 50 pounds, twisting, bending and reaching from floor to waist height and from waist to chest level.

SECTION 2A: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB.
JOB FUNCTION
Soiled Linen.
- Sorts soiled linen while following infection control procedures.. Sorting requires bending to retrieve items from floor, etc.
- Lifts 30 to 40 lb bags of wet, soiled linen from soiled linen barrels while following infection control requirements.

JOB FUNCTION
Washing Linen.
- Transports sorted, soiled linen to washer and loads washer a minimum of 15-20 times per day, while following infection control procedures.
- Operates machines, keeping tabs on cycle/stage. Disinfects mouth of washer following the loading of soiled laundry into machine and prior to shutting machine door.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Drying Linen.
- Transports wet, clean linen from washer and loads into dryer a minimum of 15 to 20 times per day, while following safe lifting procedures.
- Operates machines, using proper temperature for fabric and following standards set for proper drying cycle times, etc.
- Retrieves and untangles loads of linen prior to loading clean, dry linen into laundry cart.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Clean Linens.
- Counts and records linen processed each day.
- Folds and bundles clean linens according to standards.
- Lifts bundles of clean linen to a delivery cart a minimum of 40 to 50 times per day and delivers clean linen bundles, as well as personal clothing to units/rooms.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Work area maintenance.
- Cleans and sanitizes the work area including; machines, work tables and sorting area.
- Reports equipment malfunctions in a timely fashion, stocks needed detergents, etc.

JOB FUNCTION
Safety and Other.
- Reports observations concerning structural and equipment wear, defects and malfunctioning to supervisor.
- Reports supply and equipment needs to supervisor for replenishing.
- Maintains equipment used in performing duties.
- Relieves laundry personnel as scheduled or on a PRN basis.
- All other duties as assigned.
Customer Service.
- Ensures that established sanitation and safety standards are maintained.
- Interacts appropriately with residents, client, other personnel, supervisor and the public.
- Responds to customer preferences, complies with industry and federal and state guidelines, and meets the needs of residents.
- Must respond to the paging system in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Follows infection control and universal precautions policies and procedures to ensure that a sanitary environment is maintained at all times. Follow proper reporting, isolation and hand washing procedures/techniques.

SECTION 3: EDUCATION/TRAINING/WORK EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience preferred, but on-site training is provided.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Must be able to be at work on time.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English as to be understood effectively by another individual.
Ability to recognize hazards and follow appropriate protective equipment measures, read and understand MSDS sheets, and communicate with coworkers as to such.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work is performed in a well-lit and well-ventilated facility on varying shifts with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities and abilities. The noise level is usually moderately quiet, except for when operating equipment. Exposed to physical and emotional disabilities of the aged, which may include combative residents. Exposed to odors. Must be on constant alert for possible injuries to patients. Exposed to sharp objects and hazardous materials.
Must be able to work around food and/or cleaning products. Exposures to infectious diseases are
possible. Employees who are immune-suppressed should be aware of the potential hazards.
